Experience

Oracle International designed and deployed end-to-end online auction engine and commodity-trading platform.

Oracle International designed, developed, and deployed an easy to use an e-commerce platform, one of the first leading portals for holding real-time auctions in Sri Lanka. The application was built and maintained in compliance with internal and national rules, policies, regulations, and legislation. This involved consumer protection laws, laws governing electronic transactions, and personal data protection laws, among others.

The automated auction and trading processing system allowed visitors to search, browse, and place bids on commodities in real-time- where goods are bought and sold, and transactions take place instantaneously. The system was responsible for automating receiving bids; separating competitive and non-competitive bids; ranking of competitive bids by increasing yield or discount rate; and preparing a summary of the auction results. Sellers also had the option to sell fixed-price items on the Platform. The Platform was built with the provision for sellers to list items with product images, descriptions, price, and shipping details. Products up for bidding were listed with a minimum bidding price, available payment options and the duration of the bidding window.

A simple click allows customers to select parameters like auction details, product descriptions, and delivery options (free or chargeable). And both buyers and sellers have a feedback option available to them where they can rate their respective transaction experiences.

The Platform was built from the ground up with flexibility and extendibility as key guiding principles. With service-oriented architecture, standard Application Programming Interfaces and protocols, the Platform is ready to be deployed or adapted to the needs of any online auction engine or commodity trading platform. Oracle International also currently undertakes maintenance of the Platform.

Oracle International has successfully completed technology projects worth more than 100M LKR

Oracle International designed, developed, and deployed an omnichannel technology system for the development and distribution of lotteries in Sri Lanka. The system provided comprehensive services from the pre-conception stage throughout the entire production stage as well as post-production support- all stages involved embedding information technology systems with the corresponding human activity system. Such activities included systems conception, systems analysis, systems design, systems construction, systems implementation and systems maintenance and risk management.

The scope of the technology project involved undertaking the entire database development and software development lifecycles. This involved the specification and creation of a schema to define data in a database and developing corresponding software programmes, which can be summarised as follows:

  • Requirements gathering: obtaining and understanding the detailed requirements provided by the client, necessary data points, and functional requirements;
  • Designing: producing a detailed description of the system and methodology of constructing the database and software;
  • Implementing: initiating multiple software technology systems underscoring various operations, including automation of operations;
  • Testing: Comparing implementation systems against the design documents and requirement specifications;
  • Maintaining: fixing bugs and addressing changes in the requirements and implementation environment, among other information technology-related issues.
  • Managing risk: bi-annual analysis and testing of solutions of the software systems to ensure functionality and making necessary adjustments to mitigate overall operational risk.

Additionally, Oracle International undertook the installation of new software, procuring necessary licensing of software products, and the installing new, networked servers and hardware. Therefore, Oracle International also brings proven experience in hardware and software system implementation.
